After almost a decade of documenting the artwork, performance, community engagement, and neighborhood redevelopment aspects of artist Theaster Gates practice, it came time to coordinate production of his first monograph with Phaidon. Serving as liaison between the artist and publisher, I poured over thousands of artworks, images, videos, and documents to help create a comprehensive survey of the artist’s undertakings to that point. The book features a survey by Lisa Yun Lee, focus by Achim Borchardt-Hume, and interview by Carol Becker. I was honored to contribute a “Studio Visit” chapter, providing a unique look into the artist’s Chicago South Side renovated maker space.
